Adinath Rishabhanath was a historical figure who became the first Jina teacher. Jains worship twenty-four different Jinas, perfected enlightened beings who lived at different times in the history of the Jain religion. In sculpture, Jinas are represented either seated or standing. The twenty-four teachers are indistinguishable from one another, except for their symbols, which are carved onto the bases of their respective sculptures. Adinath Rishabhanath is identified by his symbol, the bull.
